Serving Ranch Park Elementary, Baker Drive Elementary & Hillcrest Middle School in Coquitlam, British Columbia

COVID-19 Information for Parents

In light of the COVID-19 global pandemic, we feel it is important to clarify that Dr. Bonnie Henry has confirmed and encouraged childcares to remain open, where possible, to serve families that are needing childcare. Recognizing that childcare programs may be the only option for essential service workers to secure childcare in order to work, our program has elected to remain open (with reduced services) to families at this time. Please remember that the Covid19 public health emergency is rapidly changing, and our ability to remain open may change without notice; or we may be ordered closed in the upcoming weeks by BC’s provincial health officer, Dr. Bonnie Henry, and/or our licensing officer.

Ranch Park Kids Place will continue to follow all updated protocols and procedures as outlined by the Health Authorities and CDC. This can be found at the following link: https://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/family-and-social-supports/covid-19/qa_covid19_childcare_settings_mar_24_2020.pdf

Given these important requirements, it is imperative that we are resolute in our health policy, and that all parents understand and agree to the following additional requirements:

We do not recommend that children with any underlying health concerns attend childcare programs during the Covid19 pandemic.

Accordingly, please note the following Covid19 Health and Wellness policy, which applies to all staff and children within this facility.

Prior to arrival, children must have their temperature taken, by a parent/guardian before entering the facility and temperature will be reported to the staff upon arrival and recorded each day. If the child has a temperature, they cannot attend, as per the health policy, below. Parents will additionally be asked to sign the “Parent Confirmation of Child Wellness” form. This confirms that your child is symptom free and they have not been given acetaminophen or ibuprofen in the last 12 hours.

Children may not attend Ranch Park Kids Place if they exhibit any symptoms of illness or fever. There are no exceptions to this illness policy.

Individuals residing in the household with any child attending Ranch Park Kids Place are to be taking all precautions possible to limit their exposure to COVID-19.

Arrival

Parents are not currently allowed to access our facility and drop off will occur outside the front entrance. When you arrive at the drop off location, you can notify staff of your arrival by calling the center. Please wait with your child until a staff member greets you and your child at the markers indicated, ensuring social distancing (2 meters).

Child transition into the classroom

  1. Upon entering the facility, the children are asked to put their belongings into their labeled cubby and/or hook.
  2. Children are directed to use the hand sanitation station at the front door before entering the play area of the facility
  3. The children are then directed to thoroughly wash their hands in the bathroom for a minimum of 20 seconds under supervision of staff. Please see our “How to be a Germ Fighter” poster.

Handwashing throughout the day

Children are required to wash their hands before and after eating, after each new activity indoors and as they re-enter the facility from outside.

Cleaning and Sanitization

  1. Following the current health authority guidelines for sanitization and care, our classroom is disinfected twice per day, using a bleach and water solution of 10ml bleach to 990ml of water (see attached.)
  2. We are limiting our toy selection to the children each day so that we can effectively sanitize each item after each use.
  3. We ask parents to limit the amount of items brought from home to necessities only (lunch kit, jacket, comfort toy if needed.)

For the well-being of children, staff and families, open transparency and candor is required around all the above requirements. Although this may lead to some challenging conversations, staff and families need to acknowledge and respect their necessity and their intention of care during the pandemic. We sincerely appreciate your compliance and understanding.
